What's in Your Milk? | The Power of Lactoferrin

I would venture to guess that most people don’t know what Lactoferrin is and neither did I. Recently, I decided to dig into some research on naturally occurring supplements in milk that produce positive effects for consumers. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised when I came across lactoferrin.

Lactoferrin is naturally occurring in a few different milk categories including, human breast milk, cow’s milk and camel milk! The volume of the supplement varies, but camel milk contains higher amounts of lactoferrin than any other dairy option.

What is Lactoferrin?

-It is an iron-binding protein naturally occurring in the human body and milk product.

-Lactoferrin is primarily found in breast milk, cow’s milk and camel milk.

-In high volumes, it’s been shown to be effective in various areas regarding health.

There are a plethora of benefits to the use of lactoferrin, but unfortunately it isn’t available in large quantities in traditional cow’s milk. Fortunately, there is a source that maintains lactoferrin in high quantities, camel’s milk! It’s one of the primary supplements that attribute to the high regard of its nutritional value. As you will see, the benefits are astounding.

What Does it Do?

Lactoferrin has been shown to eliminate bacteria and potentially provide protection from infection. Lactoferrin levels in human bodies elevate during infections and inflammation, and has been shown to promote a healthy gut and easy digestion.

While there hasn’t been extensive medical research, some studies have shown Lactoferrin can be used as an:

-Antiviral

-Antibacterial

-Antioxidant

-Anti Inflammatory

-Anti Fungal

The primary health issues high amounts of lactoferrin has shown to improve include:

-Iron Deficiency

-Stomach & Intestinal Ulcers

-Viral Infections

-Hepatitis C

-Diarrhea Tissue Damage from Aging

Overall

As you can see these benefits are outstanding. I was shocked that lactoferrin had this power, yet went so unrecognized. I suspect the primary reason for this is due to its minuscule volume in traditional cow’s milk. You can purchase lactoferrin in pill form, but that seems to eliminate the naturally occurring aspect, and it’s just another thing you have to keep track of. That’s why one of the most enticing components of camel’s milk is that it maintains at least 5x more lactoferrin than cow’s milk. It’s exciting to consider consuming dairy that can assist substantially in improving the aforementioned health obstacles. This is why camel milk is truly an ultimate superfood.
